Alberto Giacometti is one of most prolific sculptors of the 20th century. Having seen some of his original pieces in an exhibition at Tate Modern in 2017, I was delighted to discover that Lindbergh himself had photographed some of the sculptures. His photos were exhibited at the Gagosian in London last summer.

The marriage between monochrome and haunting silhouettes.

Lindbergh manages to pair the darkness of the monochrome with the slight and elongated figures of Giacometti's iconic sculptures, perhaps hinting at the imminence of war which existed throughout much of Giacometti's lifetime.

Lindbergh's photos focused on Giacometti's post-war work, including many iconic pieces such as Femme debout and Buste de Diego. Giacometti's later work was focused on elongated sculptures as opposed to the 7cm figures that much of his work consisted of before the destruction of war.

Giacometti's astounding sculptures will always have a special place in my heart, encapsulating the modernism and surrealism that gripped the 20th century.

Do check out his work; it is bound to have a long lasting impression on you.
